What a surprise John Kinai turned out to be as our Member Behind the Badge. Amongst other things, his father was a genuine “Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel” on the Kokoda Trail in New Guinea during World War 2. Can anyone attest that maybe John’s dad helped his or her father during WW2?
Chris Woods’ presentation on membership gave an insight to a very different model of Rotary and challenged some long-standing views and policies of Rotary. If you regularly follow the Networker, you will notice that pretty well everything he said has been presented there over time and this is how Rotary is evolving.
Also in this week’s Networker, there is some information on the Perth conference including indicative airline prices and registration time frames.
On behalf of the club, I extend a very warm welcome to Justine Cadell, who came to us for the first time last week and contacted us via our website. This week is a partner’s night, so please ensure your partner is booked in. For this week only, bookings and apologies are with Chris Egger.
Our guest speaker is our very own Ian Boys, talking on the unusual but interesting topic of working in the mental health system in the 1960’s. Mental health is a topic most people don’t think about until it affects them, so this will be a rare opportunity to get an insight into how things have evolved.
Looking forward, on 2 September we have Lisa Kempa talking about RYLA, a Rotary project focused on developing youth leadership skills.
Remember, the future of Rotary is in your hands!
